Ser hümano!! (1997) Human Being in English, is an Album made by Tiro de Gracia, considered the most important and influential in the history of Chilean hip-hop.
It emerged in an time that the country was navigating its first decado of post-dictatorship democracy. There was a latent tension between a conservative institutional status quo and a young generation eager gor free expression, while dealing with systemic inequality, the realities of the suburbs and social taboos.
What makes Ser Hümano!! stand out is its incredible sonic versatility and emotional range. It moved away from the rigid, minimalist boom-bap loops common at the time, opting for rich, layered production that incorporated funk, soul, acid jazz, and traditional Latin flavor.
The album acts as a psychological and social x-ray. It tackles heavy societal taboos head-on:
"El Juego Verdadero" deals with youth, destiny, and the psychological weight of survival.
